Krasochoria Lemesou. Cyprus wine road.

Cyprus's most picturesque wine road with modern and historic wineries.
General information: The Republic of Cyprus is a state in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. Member of the European Union since May 1, 2004. The island stretches for 240 km from east to wes, and reaches 100 km in width from north to south. Most of the island is mountainous. The Kyrenia mountain range stretches along the northern coast. The southwestern half of the island is occupied by the wide Troodos mountain range.
An important stage in the Cyprus history is the settlement of the island by ancient Greek colonists in the XII-XI centuries BC., about 3000 years ago at the end of the period of the Trojan Wars. This defined the cultural face of the island. During this period, the Greek language, art, religion and traditions were introduced. Cities that exist to this day were established. The Greeks brought the art of winemaking to Cyprus. In ancient times Cyprus was famous for its copper deposits and forests. The Cyprus geographical location has been and remains key for many eras. This makes Cyprus the aspiration of powerful states for millennia and defines Cyprus' vibrant and dramatic history and rich culture.
The type of climate is subtropical Mediterranean.
The Cyprus world of wine is very diverse and the history of Cyprus winemaking has more than 5 thousand years. Unlike the rest of Europe, where the grape phylloxera was introduced in the 19th century and destroyed the vineyards, Cyprus managed to avoid this scourge and now you can taste almost the same wine that was famous throughout the Mediterranean in ancient times !!! According to legend, Cyprus wines were served at the Dionysus feasts and in the 13th century wine from Cyprus, Commandaria, won the first ever wine show, organized by the French king Philip II.
It is better to get to know the variety of Cypriot winemaking on the spot.
In 2007 an appellation system was introduced. There are seven appellations: Commandaria, Vouni Panayias-Ampelitis, Laona Akamas, Pitsilia, Krasohoria Lemesou, Krasohoria Lemesou - Afames, Krasohoria Lemesou-Laona. With the exception of Commandaria, appellation names are rarely found on wine labels. In Cyprus, you will also find excellent wines that meet the tastes of modern wine connoisseurs - wines Lambouri, Kyperounda and Zambartas.
