Tsimlyanskaya Riviera. Motherland of sparkling red wine, the fan of which was the Great poet Pushkin. Destination Rostov-on-Don city.

Food and wine tour to Motherland of sparkling red wine, the fan of which was the Great poet Pushkin.
General information.
Rostov Region is part of the Russia Southern Federal District. Rostov-on-Don city is capital of the district. One of the largest river of Europe, the Don, flows in the region (the length of 1870 km). Here the Tsimlyansk reservoir (24 billion m³) is located. The climate is temperate continental, with mild winters and hot summers.
The history of Don viticulture goes back in old time. Strabo mentions that there were vineyards at the mouth of the Don. Ancient grape varieties brought centuries ago from the Cossack campaigns are preserved on the Don. They received local names: Krasnostop Zolotovsky, Pukhlyakovsky White, Siberian. There is a curious hypothesis that Don grapes are older than French grapes, whose varieties are 300-500 years old. In 1716, by decree of Peter I, German and French winemakers were invited to the Don. They helped the local Cossacks improve the art of winemaking. Since the time of poet Pushkin, the Don region has been producing and supplying quality dry and sparkling wines throughout the country and abroad. Don wines receive numerous awards at international competitions.
Tsimlyansk sparkling Cossack wine is the oldest prestigious brand of red sparkling wines. For more than 200 years, it has been creating glory to Russian winemaking. Tsimlyansk sparkling Cossack wine was named after the ancient Don village - Tsimla. Poet Pushkin mentioned Cossack red sparkling wine in "Eugene Onegin".
